Well, I don't know what that last sentence means, but no, as a general
rule, you would not use offsets with cooked files. Generally, you
create each chunk in its own file, and therefore, there is no need for
offsets. Offsets are used so that different chunks can exist on the
same raw disk partition, but in different locations, and also to skip
over things that some manufacturers or LVM software put on the first
cylinders of a disk, such as a label or table of contents.
You *could* use offsets with a cooked file, e.g. by creating a single
cooked file 2 GB in size, and creating two chunks on it, each of size 1
GB, one with offset 0, and one with offset 1 GB. But why would you do
that, when you could just use two files?
