Limits?

Topics: Third-Party Tools & Monitoring
We have a user who is taking C-ISAM files from a third-party application and adding them to an Informix SE database by setting DIRPATH. We are not sure what version of C-ISAM they are running but it is SE version 7.24. They have started to encounter some strange problems and we have observed that the size of the tables in SE is in the order of 2Gbytes. We understand from the release notes for version 7.24 that the maximum size of an SE table is 2Gbytes. But is it conceivable for them to produce a file greater than that size with C-ISAM? And if so is there any way we can tell from the data what version of C-ISAM was used to create it. Also, what are the file size limitations of C-ISAM? I can't find any release notes for C-ISAM. Thanks for any help that may assist me in finding my way through this fog of treacle. regards Malcolm sending to informix-list

And last version of SE with the same limitation. > They have started to encounter some > strange problems and we have observed that the size of > the tables in SE is in the order of 2Gbytes. Don't go there - fragment your table. Do anything to avoid running into the 2GB limit. It is messy; very messy. (No, of course you can't have SE do the fragmentation; you have to do it. That's an IDS feature!) > We > understand from the release notes for version 7.24 > that the maximum size of an SE table is 2Gbytes. Not easily - there's no version info in the index (or data) file. If you have a transaction log, you could look at its first few bytes. The 7.25 and upwards log has a magic number at the start - because its transaction log format is slightly different from older versions. > Also, what are the file size > limitations of C-ISAM? For C-ISAM 7.25 and higher - indefinitely large, subject to o/s and file system supporting large files. (2^63-1 bytes is the theoretical limit -- let me know when you've got enough disk space to run into that limit instead of a lack of disk space.) -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2003.04 -- http://dbi.perl.org/
