I don't know about NT shops, but this /is/ the normal way to do things in
every UNIX Informix shop I've worked at so far. Taking the archive to
disk is a lot faster, and allows it to be backed up with the rest of
the system. It also lets you run archecker against it with something
approaching speed.
Just a thought.
