Suse SLES 9.x and IFX_SHMBASE_XFR address

Good afternoon, While pilot-testing our school's Informix database (currently under HPUX 11.23) on commodity hardware running Suse SLES 9.1, I have installed Informix and correctly configured Kernel params as well as the Onconfig file. However, when I use utilities such as onmonitor, ontape, and so on, I get an error message about unable to communicate over the share memory base address (onipcshm) and that I need to use an environment variable of IFX_SHMBASE_XFR (or something to that effect) to tell the Informix tools what the base address is. I've monkied with the SHMBASE address in the onconfig file and onconfig.std, to no avail. IDS queries work just fine with: echo "select fullname from id_rec;" | dbaccess pomona Any ideas with Suse SLES 9.x with IDS 10.00.UC5? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
