Re: Urgent!! Question about add chunk

Mike AFAIK, if the physical device for your chunk is a block device, then every time you read or write to the chunk, you have the overhead of the blocking strategy used by the block device. This could slow down your IO and buffer writes until the O/S decided to flush the device buffer (meaning you could lose data). I have never tried it myself, but thats the argument I gave to my sysadmin when he set up block devices for chunks once by mistake. Question about add chunk Author: mike@email.tech-trans.com (Mike Ng) at internet Date: 12/18/1998 10:17 PM Hi all, I have the question about add chunk. I accustom add chunk using the block special device. But refer to document from INFORMIX, they suggest using the character special devices. Is there any side effect I keep to use the block special file for chunks adding or they have no difference? Anyone can help me. Thank you very much. Regards, Mike Ng
