My view (and I see David's) is that you should always set SHMTOTAL to 0. The worst that can happen, generally, is that the system slows down due to swapping. The BEST that can happen if you limit memory for OnLine is that it will crash. Well, to OnLine it stopped because it couldn't allocate a segment.
