What I'm wondering is whether there are any differences in behavior > I should know about before my users stumble upon them ... I migrated several 4GL applications from 2.10.03 on an IBM RT (ugh) to version 4.0 on a Sun 4/280, using the Informix-Online engine, a few months ago. I found the whole process to be remarkably painless. I ran into one field name that had become a reserved word ("authorized"), or hadn't been rejected as a reserved word in the old version, so I had to change it. And I had been using the sqlbreak() function to allow my users to interrupt programs without cancelling them (discussion and source code for sqlbreak() can be found in Informix Tech Notes, Spring 1989), but discovered it no longer worked, so I had to eliminate it. (Tracking down those errors wasn't incredibly easy, because they showed up as cryptic error messages during I4GL's phase 3 compile. I had to poke through the C code I4GL was producing and figure out what the program was supposed to be doing around the area where the compile failed, and then try changing those lines in my 4GL source code. I've had that problem all along, however, no matter what version of Informix I was using, and I assume you have too.) Other than those two problems, however, my 4GL programs compiled as I had written them. I was, for once, favorably impressed with the job Informix had done.
