Well, I guess mixing apples and oranges is better than oil and water! Luckily, my problem isn't really that tough, I just phrased it poorly,. I don't actually need to USE the Informix files on NT. My job is to get the data from the UNIX box into Access so it can be moved to another application. This is why I need to set up the ODBC connection. Since they don't want me to practice on the live accounting data, I copied the .dat files from the UNIX box to my hard drive. Now, when I select the Informix ODBC driver, I'm asked fro the following: Data Source Name Database Server Host Service Protocol Which makes a lot of sense when connecting to a Unix server, but I'm trying to get a file called Ledger.Dat, located in c:\\access, imported into Microsoft Access. Therein lies my problem. >>> "Wallick, Steve" <swallick@harris.com> 11/25/98 10:15AM >>> Wow, you are really mixing apples and oranges here. The UNIX files are of type Informix SE and the NT box supports IDS type. Completely different way of doing buisness. You will need to reincarnate your UNIX session and unload the data to flat files then import them into your NT informix session.
