Hi, Does anybody know about a utility that preprocesses a 4GL file and that substitutes the asterisk with the corresponding column list. What I have in mind is, that this utility processes the following situations: (1) DEFINE r_var RECORD LIKE tab1.* (2) SELECT * FROM tab1 In (1) the 'LIKE tab1.*' is replaced by a list of all the columns of tab1 with their respective data types. In (2) the * is replaced by a list of all the columns of tab1. This must yields an output file that doesn't contain any asterisks that might cause problems at runtime; e.g. when the structure of tab1 changes (new column added). Please let me know if you have something like this. regards, Henk
