input of diacritical characters

A client of ours wants to use diacritical characters during an input statement. We have implemented a <Control-V> option by which they can insert these characters much like it's done in WP. We use get_fldbuf() to get the contents of the field, but the problem is that we don't know how to determine where the cursor was. So we can only append the new character to the field. During a new input this is not a problem but if it is an update of a field then it is very confusing. A second problem is that the cursor afterwards stands at the beginning or the end of the fieldstring. Does someone know a solution for these problems? Is there a way by which we can determine where the cursor was in a field during an input? If not, has anybody else already found a different solution for this problem? (Are there any C+/INFORMIX-HACKERS out there? ;) ) They are using INFORMIX 4.10 with a SE on a unix system.
