Problems with INPUT statement

I am trying to use an input statement to allow the user to enter notes about a record. One of the fields in the table is a char(1000). I have created a per form with several identical fields with attributes as follows: f001 = patient.notes[1,70] f002 = patient.notes[71,140] ...(to cover 1000 chars of the field) It works fine if I run the form through isql. However, if I open the form in a 4gl program and use the input statement, when the user presses the ENTER key or Down Arrow (to go to the next line), the form closes. I cannot find a way to cycle through all the lines. The AFTER FIELD statement does not work because I have, in fact, only one field. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
