Those nasty LVMs only put : their configuration block at the beginning of the first logical device. Both AIX and HPUX LVM protects that area by not assigning it as "usable" space. Never have a chance you can destroy it by using it as raw devices. I think only SUN's vtoc implementation and possibly with their Online disksuite still doesn't protect it. Veritas is fine. Chris
