C-ISAM Limits - Big Systems
Posted in 1994
We're a software house trying to convince a skittish customer (who has been burned by a failed COBOL conversion onto a SUN platform) that C-ISAM is a robust file management system whose locking mechanism's (we're talking OLTP here) can easily handle hundreds (thousands?) of users all pounding data into a large number of files (200 - 300). Our applications are structured so that transactions are extremely small and locks are made only when a transaction is commited (i.e. very short duration). Target platform is one of HP's biggest HP-UX boxes. Does anyone have some success stories they're willing to share or some well reasoned arguments we may use to convince this customer that our software can handle the load? Your help would be very much appreciated. FYI our code is in 'C' - not COBOL. TIA, Larry Jones @ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Caelus, Inc. !
