Enabling NLS in informix

We are using Informix Ver 5.0 (server and ESQL/C) on Solaris 2.x and Sun OS 4.x running on a Sun workstation. The informix database on the server is accessed by multiple clients. We are looking into internationalizing our product for support of languages besides English. For this I have some questions related to enabling NLS in informix. 1. Would we need to upgrade to a later version (Ver 6.x or 7.x) of Informix which supports NLS ? 2. Would we need to recreate databases and reload data to move existing data to NLS enabled databases if we need the capability to use non-English characters in the new database records ? 3. Besides changes related to points 1 and 2 and setting up environment variables to enable NLS what are the other changes which would be needed in our existing implementation ? 4. I have looked at the document "Informix Guide to SQL:Reference for UNIX, Ver 7.12". What is the other place to look at for Informix NLS related issues ? Thanks in advance for your help.
