Re: Informix on Campus Program
Posted in 2008
Not a technical support thread. It starts with a poster dropping a link to a MySQL/Infobright data-warehousing article as a jab at the "Informix on Campus" discussion. Responses are mostly banter: one participant mocks Infobright's quoted limits (147 trillion theoretical rows, ~50 billion practical), another nitpicks the "mega/giga/tera" wording, and the exchange degenerates into insults. One contributor adds a nostalgic note about running Informix on an AT&T Unix box with green-screen terminals alongside Lotus 1-2-3, WordPerfect and dBASE III at university. No technical problem is posed and no resolution is recorded.

Well, giga actually. When I was a child, it would have been tera. _______________________________________________ Informix-list mailing list Informix-list@iiug.org http://www.iiug.org/mailman/listinfo/informix-list We had some version of Informix running on an AT&T unix server. All of the clients were daisy-chained with their green screens displaying a simple menu. Other apps like Lotus123, WordPerfect, and DBASE III were available. AT&T, Vax, Mac, and IBM were among several vendors who had a presence on campus. From this exposure, I at least had some clue about Informix and how it compared to competitors.
