My general preference is to prefer fewer, but faster processors over more slower ones. Any single threaded activity will run at the speed of a single CPU, and even w/ V7, some things just don't parallelize well. Also, I tend to favor whatever basic CPU provides the best performance per dollar at the time I have to buy (keeping future growth guesstimates in mind). Typically, this means one of the vendors latest couple of generations of CPU technology.
