Load vs unload time differ. why?

If I lock a table, shouldn't the load and unload be the same time? If not, then why? What are the valid internal Informix database reasons that a load time and a unload time are different given that: 1) No indexes are used 2) The tables are locked in exclusive mode. Does a disk write take longer than a read? Thanks for any help, Michael
