---------- From: David Buttrick[SMTP:buttrick@sportingnews.com] Sent: Monday, February 02, 1998 9:32 AM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: miperl interface to IUS 9.12 My bugs with informix continue. We are using the Universal Server v9.12UC2. We had a big assert Fail this am. My thoughts are now focussing on the perl interface. JL: Judging from the subject line, you're considering the miperl interface rather than JL: DBI and DBD::Informix. Fair enough. Note that DBD::Informix does work with JL: IUS after a fashion, but only on the data types present in the 7.x ODS systems. JL: It does not work on the new data types or user-defined data types. The work JL: required to fix this should not be outrageously difficult, but it still needs to be done. JL: I don't look like having time and resources (such as IUS) to do this soon. Has anyone experienced a memory leak using the interface? Right now we open a connection and instance perhaps hundreds of web explodes in one session, do you think that it might be important to open the connection and close it on a per-transaction basis? JL: It depends on your architecture. Establishing a connection is a time consuming JL: process, so performance will be worse if you have to open and close a connection JL: for each transaction. If you can keep the connections open, but set them dormant JL: between uses, you will probably do better. This applies regardless of which software JL: you use to access the database.
