Each oninit process represents one of your Informix Virtual Processors.
There are at least the following:
cnt type descr
--- ---- ---------------------------
1 adm Administrative threads, watchdogs.
1 misc Miscellaneous threads.
1+ cpu One for each CPU VP configured in NUMCPUVPS. These run
your user threads.
0+ net One for each NETWORK alias time the number of VPs
specified in the NETTYPE entry for that interface if
the entry specified NET in the fourth field. These
show up as classes: "tli", "soc", or "shm" depending on
what network interface and library are used. The class
corresponds directly to the second column of entries
in sqlhosts.
1+ aio At least one AIO VP as configured in NUMAIOVPS.
1 lio Logical logging threads.
1 pio Physical logging threads.
So if you have only one CPU VP, use KAIO, have no network listeners
configured, or handle them in the CPU VP, you MUST have at least six
oninits.
You can check on the various VPs and their purposes using "onstat -g
glo". The third column describes the class of the VP.
