Missing links issue

Recently I had a database server that I needed to bounce. I have the server set up with cooked files and a symbolic link that points to the cooked files. When bringing up the database server, I got a message that it couldn't open the primary chunk on several of the dbspaces and they were marked as invalid. I took a look and I noticed that some of the links had been removed from the directory. I shut down the database server and recreated the links hoping that would resolve the issue, but once I did that all of the chunks for that dbspace were marked as invalid. We basically had to rebuild the database and reload all of the data. Has anyone else had this issue come up? Is there any good way to restore the data without restoring from backup? I can't answer your first question. The second, we have some experience with.
While reconstructing our Solaris O/S after a disk crash AND mirror failure (a
bad day), my colleague tried to bring our IDS 9.4FC4 instance before the
directory with the chunk symbolic links was restored. Our primary and mirror
chunks were flagged as down, and of course onspaces wouldn't bring them back
up. The good news is that Informix support can use one of their top-secret
utilities, $INFORMIXDIR/astools/onall94_64 (for our release), to bring the
chunks back up without having to do a restore. The bad news is that you must
have a support contract: only their staff know how to use the utility, and it
requires a fresh key every day to operate. But, it pulled our collective
keisters out of the fire...

A long time ago I had a problem like this and support had to modify some pages to get it back online. Nothing that I'm aware of that we can do for ourselves. But if someone does know I would love to learn it. On 2/7/06, Schleicher,.... <KSchleicher@acnielsen.com> wrote: > > > Recently I had a database server that I needed to bounce. What happened was that the root chunk which has the chunk table in it was available so when the engine detected that other chunks were missing it marked them down in the chunk table in memory and when you shutdown it wrote the chunk table reserved page(s) back to disk. You have to have tech support mark the chunks back online for you. Art S. Kagel ----- Original Message ----- From: ....
