Peter, I have experienced this kind of problem (and found the same solution as you) with ODBC connections from Windows 95/NT (CLI 2.5) to our Online 5.07 database. I would get an error about an illegal character in my SQL. The reason for this is that we use 7-bit German ASCII in our UNIX applications, which will result in German umlaut characters being wrongly represented as i.e. brackets in the Windows GUI application. I solved this by setting DB_LOCALE=1011 in SetNet32, so now the umlaut characters are correctly represented. The problem is that now in SQL statements containing square brackets or pipe symbols, these characters are converted on the way from Windows client to UNIX server, which results in the above error.
