Error building 'sysmaster' database
I installed IDS11.5UC4 in my RHEL5. When i start the instance oninit -ivy, it
goes to online mode. But when i looked into the online log file it says that
Error building 'sysmaster' database. Here is the part of online log file
(followed by : '/tmp/buildsmi.7379'). What i observed is that, its creating
all the database like sysmaster, sysadmin, sysutils but in any of these
databases are not having a single table. So i dropped the database using
dbaccess, and ran buildsmi it also returning error.

/home/informix/inf11.5/etc/bldutil.sh
This script is run when Informix OnLine is first initialized. It
builds the database and tables which support Administration databases.
If you were directed to see this file a problem probably occurred
while building the database and/or its tables and views. See below
for more information regarding any problems.
Problems may have occurred if OnLine was shutdown after initialization
but before the entire database was created. If this was the case,
login as 'informix', rerun 'oninit', and wait for the message
"'sysutils' database created successfully"
to appear in the database server message log before shutting down. Once
the database is created successfully, it should never need to be recreated.

I googled the above error, and found some places to remove all files from
/INFORMIXTMP direcory and run oninit again, but the result is same. Somewhere
some says that contact IBM Tech Support.
Please advice.

That happens occasionally during instance initialization. Just rerun the
buildsmi script which is in $INFORMIXDIR/etc

Yes Art, i did rerun buildsmi from $INFORMIXDIR/etc after-before dropping the sysmaster database multiple time. Always i was getting error like: error in line 21 error in line 25 ..... ..... May be something to do with sqlhosts and onconfig file, pertaining to DBSERVERNAME, DBSERVERALLIAS and NETTYPE. Regards, Dhananjay
