Well, keep in mind Informix can't burn 10 CPU's worth of cycles unless it has 10 CPUVP's. Heck, consider the extreme case of a Sun E10000 domain, that you might dynamically add or remove CPU's from. I'd probably set CPUVP's to the most I thought that domain would ever see. If there aren't enough CPU's at any given time to run them all, the processes just sit there and do nothing. No harm done. I'd set it to CPU count, then scale it back if necessary until the other apps run acceptably. I haven't tried this on an E10K yet, but hope to soon ;-) ....I have tried CPUVPs > CPU's a few times, and it seemed to do no harm. The extra KAIO threads might even help....not sure.
