Re: I4GL out of temporary string storage

Bruce, Sorry accidentally cut last reponse off, here is the full thing: 1) Define a global to hold 1 record 2) Read record into global structure 3) Pass values used in group by statements as parameters to OUTPUT TO REPORT OUTPUT TO REPORT testrep(globalrec.col1, globalrec.col2) 4) Change all print statements to refer to global record instead of values that were passed as parameters. Other reasons for running out of string space: 1) Passing too many/too few parameters to a 4GL function. 2) Using less values in a RETURNING statement than the function actually RETURNS. 3) Too many format statements in the report, eg: Print todaysdate USING "dd/mm/yyyy" I have often found the last one to be the cause of string problems in large reports. The solution has always been to store the print result in a temp variable and then print that, ie: LET printstr = todaysdate USING "dd/mm/yyyy" PRINT todaysdate Mark MarkDenham@aol.com (home) Denham.M@amstr.com (work)
