Re: Detached Indexes...Multiple Extents

"MS CARLEEN C AVANT" <cavant@safecen.navy.mil> offerred: +Can anyone explain the significance of a detached index requiring a high +number of extents? Even when the associated table is fully resident within +one extent, I find it's detached indexes each spanning multiple extents. +Would like to understand ramifications of this. Thanks. The extent size for the indexes is based on the ratio of the key size to the row size times the initial extent size SPECIFIED for the table. If you create a table with a default extent size (8 pages) then load it, the table will only use one extent, since extent concatenation will come into play. The initial extent size will remain 8 pages, and that will directly impact the index extent size. Before creating the indexes, update systables.fextsize to reflect the actual size of the extent in use (need to do this as user informix). That should result in a correctly sized index extent.
