Informix 7.2 core dumps in GET DIAGNOSTICS

Greetings All, We have a slight problem with Informix 7.2 running on HP-UX 10. The application is a C/C++ program created with ESQL/C. It's very simple, basically we do a GET DIAGNOSTICS (as detailed in the ESQL/C manual) after most if not all operations to check for errors. This has served us well over the last few years with version 6, and latterly with version 7.13, but with 7.2, it causes a segmentation violation and core dump without exception. If we just check using SQLCODE everything is fine, but it is rather worrying to get this sort of behaviour in the recommended method of error checking. By the way SQLCODE reports no actual errors are occurring, and the GET DIAGNOSTICS operation in question is fetching the returned sqlstate, getting exception count works find. If anyone has any pointers on this I'd appreciate it.
