From infomix backup tape to file

Hi all, How can I copy a database backup from a tape and import it on another informix server (the second machine has no tape device but has network). This problem is the same with the one: how can I create an unl file from a informix tape backup. Is there a tool for this? I could not find one. In WinNT I could not find any application to copy from tape to HDD.
I'm in WinNT 4.0 SP6a. How can I mount the tape over the network ? -----Original Message----- From: kagel [mailto:1190260@skytel.com] Sent: Friday, June 25, 2004 12:27 To: Narcis Ciornei Subject: Re: From infomix backup tape to file [3157] You cannot easily do what you are trying to do. On UNIX you would just set TAPEDEV to the remote tape drive and read the tape over the network. Or you would use dd to copy the tape to a disk file. On winXX I think you're out of luck. On the 2nd question, there is no such utility. Like Sam, I am a unix geek, but can't you in ontape (as we did for
onarchive)....
set the TAPEDEV to the remote tape drive and let 'er ripe? it works
for unix, so wouldn't it for windows?
for example
if i have unix server A with a tape drive, and unix server B without....
If I set TAPEDEV to serverA:/dev/tapedrive and did the DB backup,
then on server B, for the restore, I can also say TAPEDEV
serverA:/dev/tapedrive, and do the restore across network from server A.
in this case, i believe from past experience (were are on onbar now, so
it's been a while since i did it that way).... but from past experience,
i do believe you need to set the TAPEDEV on server A to
"serverA:/dev/tapedrive" so informix recognizes the
servername:devicename convention, thus allowing you to use the
convention during the restore....
test and try....

An unload file from an informix tape backup??? as in you did a DB
ontape tape backup and from that you want to do a dbunload/dbexport or
something from the tape backup to a file?....
I must not be understanding the question.... why wouldn't you simply
create the unload from the active database as opposed to the DB tape
backup?
