Re: informix odbc header files on linux

There is still some serious confusion here. The CLI HOWTO that's beeing prepared is for how to set up the CLI ODBC drivers on Windows 95, 98 and NT for connection to the released SE engine on Linux. Jonathan's first post was right. /dev/null is the place to look for the Informix CLI ODBC drivers for Linux :-) They have not been released for Linux. The Informix CLI drivers are client side drivers only and use I-Connect for connection to the server. The only ODBC client I know of that's available for Linux and Informix SE are those OpenLink have released. What's the problem you are having with these? OpenLink has two sets of drivers they call Single Tier and Multi Tier. The Single Tier use I-Connect for communication with the server while the Multi Tier drivers connect via their own protocol to a server component that must be installed and running on a server, usually the same as where the database server is running. The Single Tier drivers for Informix are however only currently available for Windows 95 and NT so you need the Multi Tier drivers. This means you will have to download both the server component and the client component of the drivers for Linux. If you want to run your ODBC application on the same machine as the database server you will have to install both the client components, the Request broker, the Database Agent an the ODBC agent on the same machine. I have never tried so I don't know how this will work. I haven't tried this on another machine either so I don't even know if the client and server components should be installed the same place. Probably that's ok. Post here or contact OpenLink directly if you have more problems with these drivers.
