Informix and EMC's BCV's (disk-to-disk copy)

Hi, Is it possible to restore a single database using BCV's and not effect the Informix engine? Scenerio: rootdbs - 2gb disk --> bcv1 tempdbs - 2gb disk --> bcv2 logdbs - 2gb disk --> bcv3 db1- 2gb disk --> bcv4 db2 - 2gb disk --> bcv5 db3 - 2gb disk --> bcv6 db2 gets corrupted... Can I restore only db2 without effecting db1 and db3?? Or do I have to restore all bcv's back to original disk? Your help appreciated, Curtis curtis.whitworth@goldkist.com
You do not state your version or product. In IDS 7.2+ you CAN restore a
single dbspace from either an OnBar or ontape archive. HOWEVER, be
careful as any detached indexes in other dbspaces or other fragments of
tables in the restored dbspaces that live in other dbspaces will be out of
sync.

If (as implied by the question) you backed-up the database using
'onmode -c block'
split the 3rd mirrors (ie. BCVs)
'onmode -c unblock'
then you must be running IDS 7.3 or 8.3 and using EBR. Since you mapped
individual dbspaces to BCVs, you can restore any/all dbspaces from the BCV
and then (optionally) run onbar to roll-forward logical logs. Note that
onbar supports partial restore or point-in-time restore but not both. There
is a white paper (co-logo'ed) with Informix on www.emc.com under 'Partners &
Alliances' -> 'Database and Applications Software' -> 'Informix' ->
'Integration of EMC TimeFinder and SRDF Software with Informix Dynamic
Server' that gives all the gory details. Call your EMC rep if you have
additional questions.
