Informix also faces the challenge of replacing its chief financial officer, Alan Hendrix, who resigned on Thursday after his three month tenure. White is calling for management changes and cost reductions, including a reduction in the number of Superstores. While returning to profitability, one Informix supporter, Thomas Siebel CEO of Siebel Systems said, "I know most of the people in the database area and there is no management team of higher integrity that those at Informix." C1, David Wilson) C/NET "Informix hit with 5th class action" The law firm of Wolf Popper LLP represents the fifth of six class-action lawsuits filed to date against Informix officers and directors for allegedly making misleading statements about the company's earnings and potential growth. Representing people who bought Informix stock between April 16, 1996 and March 31, 1997, the lawsuit claims that certain Informix employees sold about 960,000 shares of common stock before reporting the poor earnings. "Gartner Group should be ashamed," said Frank Staheli, application development manager at Brigham Young University. Staheli added to his protest stating that Informix remains the best and most focused database company in the market. (5/5/97, pg. 6, Frank Staheli) INFOWORLD ONLINE "Netscape extends its extranet strategy with links to OLAP wares" Last week, Informix, along with Oracle and eight other vendors, announced support for Netscape's "extranet" computing vision. The vendors agreed to support the Internet and application program interface standards established with Netscape One for Web-enabling OLAP products. "All I can say is ... duh," said Tim Sloane, an analyst with the Aberdeen Group. "For vendors -- hardware and software -- and end users, licenses all go up as their technology can be offered to a broader audience and the Web is about a broadest possible audience, so it makes sense." (4/30/97, online, Lynda Radosevich) INFORMATIONWEEK ONLINE "Informix embraces automated component testing" Informix will reap a major victory next week when it becomes the second software provider to institutionalize automated component testing, the first was Netscape last October. Informix will license PREfix, the code analysis and reporting tool technology developed by Palo-Alto based Intrinsia. Informix said it will offer Universal Server application models to third-party DataBlade and IT developers. Third-parties applaud Informix's decision to license its technology as it is expected to bring debugged DataBlades deployed to the market faster. (5/2/97, online, Rich Levin)
