HASH anyone?

Before I start writting a UDR called hash to perform a hash on a column value;
i.e.
select col1, col2, hash(col3)
from my_tab
where col1 = X
does anyone know if there are plans for future releases to include something
like this for us? and/or does someone already have one...

Oh and by hash I mean encyption hash, i.e. MD5 - not any other kind of hash.
Can you please explain the difference between what you are asking and column level encryption. John F. Looking up an MD5 encrypted version of a column stored in plain text? That would be weird and less than totally secure, but... Art Art S.
