Thomas, There aren't any special requirements for XPS beyond what you want for ODS (or whatever its known as now..) An installation on an SMP box is a special circumstance though, if you want to go single coserver with XPS you should get 8.20 (thats what its built for) if you really want to install 8.11 on a single box you will still need to configure at the minimum two cosevers and just point them to communicate via local lookback tcp (ethernet) you would want at the very least 2 cpus (one for each coserver but even that is undersized A tool can communicate with 8.11 but it does not support INET. Some ODBC drivers will fail with 8.11 because it does not have subquery completeness. Bottom line: Yes its possible - no its not recommended. If you are serious about this I would recommend 8.20 it has many features/bug fixes that 8.11 does not, 8.20 is G/A right now. jim Hallo, Hope that someone who's got experience with Informix XPS Server reads this mail... I would like to know what requirements are necessary to install Informix XPS (Extended Parallel Server) 8.11 (or higher) on common SUN-Unix-Machines (Solaris 2.5 or higher). Is there any special Hardware (Disk Array) or Software required? Is it possible to install XPS on a simple Single or Multiprocessor SUN SPARC for testing purposes? Does XPS provide the same APIs as the 'common' Informix-Server does? E.g. can a Tool communicate with XPS (e.g. via SQL-API) when it is able to process SQL-Queries against a common, non-parallel Informix Server? Thank you very much for any hint, Thomas Stoehr
