The short answer is Yes. Now, everyone can hit the delete key and move on, but for those interested, the long answer follows: My previous career field was commercial aviation in which the cost of ignorance and shortcuts was bent metal and painfull loss. For almost two decades, I spent multiple tens of thousands of my own money to get the best flight training I could find. When one considers the alternative, it is suprising how _cheap_ mere money becomes. When I switched to the computer field, I was suprised by two things. First, the benefits of training are almost invisible. If one fails to initialize a variable, and a program crashes, it does not make the headlines tomorrow morning. Second, nobody seems to pay for their own training. It is always done at the expense of the employer. So I can understand the reluctance of an employer to foot the training bill. I am now in the process of getting my employer to send me to the last few classes that I need to have a well rounded Informix education, (Systems Admin, Performance Tuning and Internal Architecture), and if they do not pay for it, then I will do so gladly. I really get a kick out of doing things in an optimal way, and I still get that cold, clammy feeling when I hear the word "crash". Besides I really do think that there is a real monetary benefit in having a fully trained work force. The final caveat is that those who know how to do, are worth more than those who have to guess. Does that answer your question, Neil? I am still a little unsure if this is what you were after. ==================================================================== Harold Luse Phone: (970) 491-4120 Veterinary Teaching Hospital Fax: (970) 491-4123 Colorado State University Pager: (970) 229-8173 Fort Collins, Colorado USA E-mail: hluse@vth.colostate.edu ====================================================================
