We (my company, not me) just finished evaluating the beta version of New Era and, well, it does have a few problems. Pieces of it were designed by different teams and it does show. (window painter is not seamlessly integrated) It doesn't have all the proper bells and whistles (3d controls, ...) It suffers from bugs and pitfalls (things you should be able to do but can't). We reviewed the beta copy, and it had problems like any beta would. Many of the problems were released in the first official release of the software. It is not yet fully matured. On the good side... It has sufficient stability to develop applications. We developed a small scheduling program in it and found the resulting application to be acceptable. It contains class libraries which come with excellent on-line documentation and this is what the people here believe will lift it above Powerbuilder and others. If I had an application that needed to be done in Windows and access Informix I would choose New Era, even in its current state. note: Our people who evaluated New Era also had experience with PowerBuilder. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Damn, I sound like a sales pitch. I hate it when that happens. I better stop before somebody gets sick... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Miguel A. Caldera ! Antares Development Corp. !
