I'm pretty sure older versions of Informix are supported, as well as character-mode. DOS was supported as of JAM 6, but I don't think JAM 7 or Prolifics 2.0 supports DOS, so you might have to use an older version. The code should be able to run on AIX and SCO, in both character-mode and Motif, and you should be able to integrate JAVA (it'll generate JAVA-script and HTML for you, and has hooks for each widget/event where you can put your own JAVA, HTML, JAVA-script, etc). Anyway, this way you'll have a framework, database connectivity, a GUI editor, 3-tier support, etc, and you can learn JAVA in steps, and put little JAVA-applets in your application where it is appropriate. If you want to go straight Java and JDBC, there are ODBC /JDBC bridges, so any version of informix with ODBC support should be supported by JDBC. ODBC isn't great, but there are versions on Unix, so I think you have alot of options. I don't know if there are JDBC for Informix drivers out (I bet there are), but the ODBC option exists. Contact Intersolv, I'll bet they'll have a JDBC driver. Good luck, Mark McNulty mmcnul@jyacc.com Note- these views are mine and not those of JP Morgan or JYACC.
