NewEra nmake problem

NewEra seems unable to find nmake when I try to build one of the sample programs with the Application Builder. The "Review Build" window tells me: Bad Command or file name Build Complete. If I cd into the directory containing the source and type: nmake -f devtools.mak everything compiles nicely and I end up with an executable I can run, whether I'm using Pcode or C (so I know nmake is in my path). If I change the preferences "Make Utility" to include the full path to nmake it still fails. If I move a copy of nmake.exe into /informix/bin it still fails.
