Upper/Lower case in key fields

We have a Microsoft/Watcom database soon to be rolled to our client base. This database includes a feature that allows the use of any combination of upper and lower letters in a the name fields, which are themselves indexed fields. In the back office we have an HPUX/Informix Online database which does not handle the upper/lower case problem well. In fact, so far, not at all. We are searching for a solution. Has anyone encountered this problem? Do you have a solution?
