The group option in Select

Informix .03 If I do a select statment where I do a 'group by' clause and one the column that I am grouping on has *some* null values among many other values, the select statement will group all of the non null values correctly, but takes and lists each of the null rows as its own group. Is there a way to get around this without having to prefill all null values to *some value*?
