Splitting tables across file systems

We have an Informix SE 5.01 engine on an Altos 15000 with SCO Unix. We are upgrade our machine to a second 486-50, more RAM, and multiprocessor extensions. We have been told that by splitting the tables across different file systems we can utilize the power of the multiprocessing capability. Question: Has anybody done this? Does it work? What are the repercussions? I know Online has multi-threading and SE doesn't. But could splitting the tables help avoid SQL CPU task saturation in an SE environment? Upgrading to Online is not an option at the moment. ----------------------- Jelks H. Cabaniss, III cabaniss@cap.gwu.edu -----------------------
