Although it's a "classic product transition" it shouldn't have had to happen for a software company. With their new tools strategy and some consentration of efforts on the engines they are however better positioned than any of their competitors. The hope is that they can come up with a strategy to sell the engines in volume. That's where the database market seems to be going now. With inovative thinking and daring marketing they have every oportunity.
