Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Poster found dbinfo('sqlca.sqlerrd1') (used to fetch the last inserted SERIAL value) suddenly returning 0 on IDS 9.40; restarting the server and dropping/recreating the table didn't help. Suggestions were to check whether the column was SERIAL8 (needing dbinfo('serial8')) and whether it was still a SERIAL — both confirmed fine. The value worked again the next day in WinSql but still failed from the application. No resolution is recorded; the advice was to open a case with IBM/Informix support.

I have been using the dbinfo('sqlca.sqlerrd1') function to obtain last insert
ID for a while, and all of a sudden it started returning 0 all the time. This
is on a development environment's database, so I restarted the DB server, and
dropped and recreated the table that I use the function on. All this did not
fix the problem. Does anyone else have any ideas? The IDS version is 9.40
Thanks in advance for any light shed on this problem.
Hi Peter,
Are you using serial8?
If yes, then use dbinfo('serial8')

Ok, here is an update:
The column is a SERIAL, and remains that after the recreate.
this problem occurred yesterday, yet today it miraculously fixed itself!
Now I have no idea what happened between last night and this morning to make
it alright again

UPDATE2:
it only works in WinSql. When running the app that uses the function it
doesn't work still
