dangling lock on table

Using Informix version 4.01 UD1 on ATT 3B2, I have found some of our clients have trouble with rogue process (usually sqlexec) deadlocking tables. To check: Use fuser command to determine who has the table. (This is a utility on 3B2 Unix - don't know if it's standard.) man fuser for details. When you have found what process has a lock on the table, see if it is a "rogue" process (PPID = 1). If so, kill -9 it. Another option is to shut the system down. This will probably clear the lock.
