Re: Disk Layout and mirroring in 7.x

Don't do "OS" mirroring. Use your disk sub-system software. (Veritas, Vol Mgr, Clariion Manager, etc.) If the disks are set up in RAID/1 (hardware mirror), you disk subsystem SHOULD know to read from BOTH disks. (I've used the Clariions on D/G machines and they are extremely fast and very robust) As for your other point, add the second 2Gb partition as a "chunk" to your original DB space. The limitation in on CHUNKS not on DBSPACES. And yes, some of the newer RAID offerings are almost as fast as multiple, single-spindle fragmentation schemes. I still prefer, however, the control that single-spindle layouts give you.
