This comment simply represents the interests of : those vendors pushing tier-based pricing. Sadly, most of the DBMS vendors are : wedded to this licensing model. It says, in effect, that they want/deserve : more of your money if you choose, and can afford, to run their application on : a higher performing processor (or simply a more expensive box) at any given : user level. : I and my organization have for years argued with the likes of Informix : and Oracle for *user* based licensing. It should be, after all, *none of : their business* what processor I choose to use for any given number of users, : any more than they should look at the memory, or disk controller. Apropos, : some years ago we got into an argument with Informix which wanted some $20,000 : more to run their product on one HP model over another, the only difference : between those models being the number of *expansion slots*. We told them to : "take a walk". Bravo! I have argued until I was blue in the face with Informix (though it could apply to Oracle, etc al. as well) over their ridiculous platform-level pricing. Of course, they *do* have a user-level-only pricing scheme which is more expensive yet. -- Gerry Gilmore Taoist-UNIX Disciple SCO and UnixWare Will work for lots of money - I'll buy my own food.
