Re: Infromix & Data Warehousing Solutions

Doug, Like I had mentioned we were in the early stages of using the product. I haven't spent as much time with it enough to know the answers to your questions. I've played around with some of the more general features, but depend on working with a full-time analyst to manage Metacube, who is also doing other things right now. I'm just the DBA. :-) Metacube is a full-time job, as much for the end-user portion of a data warehouse as the DBA side is for the back-end. These two must be coordinated for optimal output of queries, thus the design of the data base is crucial to the overall success of Metacube. It's a great learning experience to say the least. The optimizer can only be as good as your best implementation of the data base. So all that stuff about fragmentation, disk layouts, and classic table design are really important. If not done right, no optimizer on either Metacube or XPS will do much good. There is a knowledge base of information the ATG folks can bring to the table if your site is considering XPS, that could save you a considerable amount of learning what has already been learned. Talk to them, they can help. Tim Doug Johnson wrote: > > Has anyone used the MetaCube Warehouse Optimizer?
