Perhaps someone has stomped your library. Try to run
nm /usr/informix/lib/libnforms.a and see if it complains (it should
print symbol table, more or less); you might also want to use ar to
extract everything, then pack it again (of cource, packing is actually
unnecessary: if nm and extract work, library is OK):
If this show no problems, then I am at loss....

P.S. Of course, you could also try to restore your library from
backup...
