I spent several years as DBA of a variety of Oracle databases and now with similar duties on an Informix database. With Informix regularly crashing due to corrupt indexes on tables, locking out users due to lengthy checkpoints (this is the default of Informix), and other similar problems, and having seen that Oracle never had these problems, I'd hardly say that Informix is superior.
