I'm not so sure about the "accident" part. I've noticed tons of MIME garbage in many postings (or mails to the informix list) from IBMers, rendering them difficult if not impossible to read in the newsgroup. Must be their mail system. Notes? Notes? Yes. It seems I'm guilty in part, too - I used to have Notes configured to send plain text to the news group, but when I resent the updated 'Eleven FAQs' posting, it got MIME'd in plain text and HTML. Notes has a mind of its own, and I don't like the way it thinks. And it is distressingly hard to get it to do what you want it to do rather than what it thinks it should do - sort of like the average child (but less brain power). -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2005.01 -- http://dbi.perl.org/
Why does anyone use Notes?! I have decoded the second email using the
"base64" C program (see http://base64.sourceforge.net) and appended it
to this. Any thoughts, Jonathan?

Just tested it with the max value and unload and load works fine.
Thanks and Regards,

Range for int8 is 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807
which is 19 digit.
There is no difference in range for int8 in 64-bit or 32 bit product.
Was the unl file edited ? Also provide the data and if insert into select *
works as Murray suggested then there must be a problem in unload of the
data.
Thanks and Regards,
Gaurav

What do you get when you select that column from the original table? What
is corrupt, the original data in the table or just the unload file?
If I wanted to load into another table I would insert into .. select * from
... rather than unload the data.

Subject: Loading table with INT8 column
Hi,
I am using 9.40.HC4 on HP-UX 11i.
I have unloaded a table using the UNLOAD TO statement which has a column
with INT8 data type . When I now try to load the same data into a new
table, which has the similar schema as the previous one, I get the
following error message.
1284: Value will not fit in an INT8. Unknown error message 635.
847: Error in load file line 62.At line no 62 of the unl file, int8 column is having 20 digit number. This
is surely execeeding the storage capacity. But this number was already
stored in the table from which I unloaded.
I have a doubt. Is this because of the 32 bit Informix engine I am using?
Can somebody please let me know if am missing something here.
Thanks in advance
Sindhu

Well, obviously, the IBMers have to because IBM owns it, and has to keep up appearances. Turn it to your advantage: when you send an IBMer an email request a read receipt. you'll get it - they can't turn it off!
