CREATE TABLE in volatile memory ?

Hi, Does informix support tables (non-temporary) which reside in volatile memory ? As far as i know, DB2 supports it. If Informix can't do this, does anyone know how to create a blobspace in memory on HP-UX ? I know Linux can do this using the tmpfs. Thanks, Corne'

With IDS 7.3x and 9.2x/9.3x you can specify that a table is to be memory resident. This will mark it's cache pages as HIGH priority so that they can only be swapped out of cache by other HIGH priority data pages. Only accessed pages are loaded into the cache, but then that's all you need anyway. With IDS 9.4x there are still memory resident tables, however, the command to indicate that a table should have such status is no-op. The engine uses heuristic algorithms to determine data that should have HIGH priority and ages HIGH priority cache pages to lower priority if they are not access frequently. WHY would you want a BLOB space to reside in volatile memory on a RAM disk? Don't you like your data? Art S.
