IDS 9.40 UC3 (32-bit) on Solaris 9 (64-bit) on Sun Fire V480 with 4
processors and 12 GB of RAM.
Hello everyone.
I'm testing a new Informix configuration just to see if I can use as much of
a system resources as I have.
But, there seems to be a problem with the total amount of memory 32-bit
Informix can use. For example, the following parameters work fine:
SHMVIRTSIZE 2097152 # 2 GB
SHMADD 1048576 # 1 GB
SHMTOTAL 3670016 # 3.5 GB
But, after changing SHMOTOTAL to 5 GB (SHMTOTAL 5242880) instance cannot
initialize shared memory and I get the following message in Informix log:
"Value of SHMTOTAL exceeds operating system limits".
Previously I set kernel parameter shmmax to 3 GB so Informix can acquire big
memory segments.
At the moment I'm not sure if this is really OS limit or 32-bit Informix
limit. If I set SHMTOTAL to zero will Informix really be able to use more
than 4 GB of memory? Or should I migrate to 64-bit Informix?
Thanks everyone.

Can someone in the know tell me when IBM expects to have a working ISA in their IDS 9.40.UC4 J/Foundation? The jre1.2.2 included still doesn't run under RHEL3 (loader complains about a missing function in a library) and it refuses to install with the IBM 1.4.2 JVM that comes on the RHEL3 extras CD. I'm really not looking forward to calling it in and having to wait seven months for someone to get around to fixing it. Please tell me someone has some hack to get it to work with java-1.4.2-ibm-1.4.2.0-1jpp_8rh. -- Forte International, P.O.
